Central Coast Mayor Lawrie McKinna said Council had partnered with the NSW Government to secure funding for even more community-building projects and the partnership with Lake Macquarie Council would enhance regional growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRecently, Council supported Lake Macquarie\u2019s Motion calling on the Australian Government to progress the Newcastle to Sydney High Speed Rail route,\u201d Cr McKinna said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis Motion is being submitted for debate at the National General Assembly of Local Government in June \u2013 the largest annual gathering of local government leaders in Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt our February Council meeting, we resolved to submit the same Motion to the National General Assembly, meaning our combined voice will be even stronger on this matter of regional importance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is an excellent example of how strategic alliances can strengthen advocacy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cr McKinna said a national high-speed rail network linking Brisbane<\/a> and Melbourne<\/a>, with the Newcastle\u2013Sydney section via Lake Macquarie and the Central Coast as the first stage, has the potential to transform both regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cFaster travel times between cities will open up exciting opportunities for jobs, housing, trade, education, tourism and more,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cPeople will have more choice about where they live, work and study, and new reliable transport options will help to manage population growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis theme of this year\u2019s National General Assembly is \u2018Stronger Together: Resilient.
