{"id":390666,"date":"2026-03-21T13:52:20","date_gmt":"2026-03-21T03:52:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=390666"},"modified":"2026-03-21T13:52:25","modified_gmt":"2026-03-21T03:52:25","slug":"getting-ready-for-melbourne-airport-rail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=390666","title":{"rendered":"Getting ready for Melbourne Airport Rail"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Hundreds of steel pipes have arrived in Albion as crews begin the task of relocating Melbourne\u2019s largest jet fuel pipeline, as part of works to untangle one of the state\u2019s busiest rail junctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?cat=17733\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Melbourne Airport Rail Link\">Melbourne Airport Rail<\/a> Stage 1 includes building 2 rail flyovers and a rail underpass as well as new and upgraded track between West Footscray and Albion, building 2 new platforms and extending the concourse to turn\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?tag=sunshine-railway-station\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Sunshine Railway Station\">Sunshine Station into a superhub<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/bigbuild.vic.gov.au\/projects\/melbourne-airport-rail\/stage-1\/sunshine-superhub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a0<\/a>, and new stations at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bigbuild.vic.gov.au\/projects\/melbourne-airport-rail\/stage-1\/albion-station\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Albion<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bigbuild.vic.gov.au\/projects\/melbourne-airport-rail\/stage-1\/new-tottenham-station\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tottenham<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Relocating the pipeline running along the rail corridor from Albion to Sunshine will make way for this new rail infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pipeline, currently located between one and 5m underground, is the main jet fuel pipeline to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?cat=513\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Melbourne Airport\">Melbourne Airport<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Crews will spend the next 8 months realigning the pipeline, boring a 2km hole 30m underground, between Albion Station car park and a small reserve inside the rail corridor near Sunshine Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Albion Station car park will remain closed until later this year, with more pipes being delivered to site over the coming weeks.
