Glasgow Central Station has been closed following a significant fire in a shop next to the station on Union Street. The station will remain closed for the entire day after the major fire caused part of a neighbouring building to collapse on Sunday evening (8 March).<\/p>\n

It means that no ScotRail services will operate to or from its high level platforms. ScotRail services will not call at Glasgow Central low level but will pass through the station to stop at Argyle Street and Anderson.<\/p>\n

Disruption is expected to continue throughout the day, with officials saying there is currently \u201cno estimate\u201d for when the station will reopen.<\/p>\n

Mark Ilderton, ScotRail\u2019s service delivery director, said: \u201cWe are sorry to customers for the impact this will cause, and we would urge them to check their journey options before they travel, and we aware there will be very limited replacement transport. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe will keep customers updated via our social media channels, and you can also visit our website, or use the ScotRail app to find out what services will be operating.\u201d<\/p>\n

The alarm was raised at around 15:45 on Sunday 8 March, following reports of a fire at a vape shop on Union Street. The blaze spread through Victorian buildings next to the station, causing the dome at one corner of the structure to collapse.<\/p>\n

No injuries have been reported, though nine appliances and three high-reach vehicles remain at the scene.<\/p>\n

Network Rail has said that initial inspections have not identified any significant damage to the station itself.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fire is now under control, but emergency services, including Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, remain on site as they continue to manage the incident,\u201d said  a Network rail spokesperson.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll services to Glasgow Central remain suspended and passengers are advised to seek alternative travel arrangements.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue to provide further updates as soon as more information becomes available.\u201d<\/p>\n
