{"id":38039,"date":"2024-05-08T15:52:24","date_gmt":"2024-05-08T05:52:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/?p=116188"},"modified":"2024-05-08T15:52:24","modified_gmt":"2024-05-08T05:52:24","slug":"federal-government-provides-support-for-westport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=38039","title":{"rendered":"Federal government provides support for Westport"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/westport.jpeg\" alt=\"\" style=\"float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;\"><figcaption>Image: tristanbnz\/stock.adobe.com<br \/>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>The Australian Government is making critical investments in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/rail-industry-news-australia-new-zealand\/state-based-news\/western-australia\/\">Western Australian<\/a> infrastructure, cementing the state\u2019s future growth.<\/strong><span id=\"more-116188\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the 2024\u201325 Budget, the government is committing $33.5 million towards planning works to support the development of Westport.<\/p>\n<p>The Westport project is the linchpin for future trade growth in Western Australia.<\/p>\n<p>It includes planning a new port and the connected road, rail and logistics operations required to move container trade from Fremantle to Kwinana.<\/p>\n<p>The Commonwealth\u2019s commitment to the Westport project as part of the 2024-25 Budget will progress planning that is critical to facilitate construction of Westport, including:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Freight rail duplication and level crossing removal<\/li>\n<li>Upgrading Anketell Road West<\/li>\n<li>Kwinana Freeway widening<\/li>\n<li>Roe Highway widening<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Federal Government have been working closely with the Western Australian Government to deliver a port that meets the latest global standards of technology, sustainability and efficiency while building in the capacity for change and innovation.<\/p>\n<p>The Government\u2019s $33.5 million investment will match the state\u2019s contribution, taking the total investment for this planning phase to $67 million.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Anthony Albanese celebrated the announcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are committed to building a Future Made in Australia and this project is an example of how we are doing that,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWestern Australia is the economic engine room of Australia, and this Port will be a critical hub.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased to work with the Cook Government to deliver this project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This project builds on what the governments are already delivering in Western Australia including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.metronet.wa.gov.au\/\">METRONET<\/a>, the Tonkin Highway corridor and the Outback Way.<\/p>\n<p>The post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/federal-government-provides-support-for-westport\/\">Federal government provides support for Westport<\/a> appeared first on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/\">Rail Express<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Australian Government is making critical investments in Western Australian infrastructure, cementing the state\u2019s future growth.
