Network Rail has started work on a project delivering step-free access to all platforms at Thameslink’s Luton station.<\/p>\n

As part of the Government\u2019s Access for All programme, the station is being upgraded with a new fully accessible footbridge and three lifts.<\/p>\n

Currently, only Platform 5 has step-free access. The improvements will provide an unobstructed, accessible route from the main entrance and drop off points to all platforms.<\/p>\n

This will make the station safer and more convenient for passengers \u2013 especially those with reduced mobility, or travelling with items like prams or luggage.<\/p>\n

The main construction work is taking place from February to December. The bridge span will be installed in June, followed by the lifts towards the end of 2026. The overall project is planned for completion in spring 2027.<\/p>\n

Carl Martin, accessibility lead at Thameslink, commented: \u201cAs operators of the station, we are truly delighted to see work under way installing lifts at Luton station. They will make a huge difference for our many passengers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nick Wilton, Network Rail sponsor, added: \u201cDelivering step\u2011free access at Luton is an important investment in making the station more welcoming and easier for everyone to use.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe new footbridge and lifts will provide a safe, accessible route to every platform and create a much better experience for passengers, particularly those with reduced mobility or travelling with luggage or prams.<\/p>\n
