The Ministry of Transport of Bulgaria has approved investments of \u20ac7m to upgrade four terminals at the country\u2019s two principal ports, Port of Varna and Port of Burgas. The programme includes the restoration of rail connections and the procurement of new equipment.<\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

At the Port of Varna, the two terminals concerned are Varna West, where the rail link will be rehabilitated, and PCHMV-Varna, which will receive a new mobile crane. At the Port of Burgas, the Dolno Ezerovo terminal will be reconnected to the rail network and equipped with a new charging station. For KRZ Port Burgas, the ministry stated only that \u201cthe supply of equipment is planned\u201d.<\/p>\n

In recent months, Bulgaria has stepped up efforts to advance rail freight infrastructure. Notable progress has been reported on the cross-border railway link with North Macedonia. The country has also secured \u20ac50m to develop a terminal in Ruse, near the border with Romania. In addition, Bulgaria, together with Romania and Greece, is seeking funding for the Thessaloniki\u2013Sofia\u2013Bucharest rail corridor.<\/p>\n

European Cargo Experience<\/h2>\n

Terminals, equipment and port\u2013rail synergies will be central themes at the upcoming European Cargo Experience<\/a>, jointly organised by RailFreight, WorldCargo News and Project Cargo Journal. The event will take place in Gdansk, Poland, on 6\u20137 May 2026.
