{"id":361593,"date":"2026-02-03T20:22:00","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T10:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/railuk.com\/?p=188708"},"modified":"2026-02-03T20:22:00","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T10:22:00","slug":"behind-the-scenes-of-the-aurora-fleet-introduction-getting-our-people-ready","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=361593","title":{"rendered":"Behind the scenes of the Aurora fleet introduction: Getting our people ready"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/railuk.com\/rolling-stock\/behind-the-scenes-of-the-aurora-fleet-introduction-getting-our-people-ready\/\" title=\"Behind the scenes of the Aurora fleet introduction: Getting our people ready\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"485\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/03094100\/aurora-485x360.jpg\" class=\"webfeedsFeaturedVisual wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" style=\"display: block; margin-bottom: 5px; clear:both;max-width: 100%;\" link_thumbnail=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/03094100\/aurora-485x360.jpg 485w, https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/03094100\/aurora-80x60.jpg 80w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>East Midlands Railway (EMR) has released the final chapter of its documentary about the roll out of their new state of the art Aurora fleet.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The final chapter of the Aurora documentary focuses on how EMR, which is operated by Transport UK, is training its staff to operate the new \u00a3400 million fleet.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The episode features drivers, train managers and senior management talking through the benefits the new trains will bring to customers.<\/p>\n<p>It also provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse of staff undergoing training and footage of them getting ready to work on the new fleet.<\/p>\n<p>The first Aurora entered into service in December, today there are five&nbsp;units which are running at various times throughout the week.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"sH8802k0DrI\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Aurora Project | Episode 3 | Training &amp; Preparation | EMR\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sH8802k0DrI?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The state-of-the-art Hitachi Rail built fleet will transform the experience of customers as they travel on the Midland Main Line &#8211; providing more seats, modern, spacious interiors, improved air conditioning, free enhanced WiFi, plug sockets at every seat and clear customer information screens.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.prgloo.com\/media\/3a6dcf0b27d54588b00aafe4eed78133?width=580&amp;height=580\" alt=\"IMG 4332\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>The bi-mode trains take&nbsp;advantage of the \u00a31.5 billion Midland Main Line upgrade, with the ability to run on electric overhead lines &#8211; dramatically cutting carbon emissions by 66 per cent, meaning quieter and greener journeys too.<\/p>\n<p>Each Aurora will provide customers 24 per cent more seats and over 19 per cent more legroom in a typical five carriage formation, compared to the Meridian trains it is replacing.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.prgloo.com\/media\/1478b41f186c4aebb3d83ac805ff7877?width=580&amp;height=580\" alt=\"IMG 4327\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Once the full fleet of 33 trains is in service, it will deliver a substantial 46 per cent increase in the total number of seats available for customers travelling on the Midland Main Line.<\/p>\n<p>EMR went to great lengths to source and adapt a brand-new seat for the new trains. Working closely with Derby-based design firm DG DESIGN, it has taken the proven product of a FISA Lean seat and refined it to offer enhanced comfort and support for customers.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.prgloo.com\/media\/9eba1ddf97304935afbda6004b44bdb7?width=580&amp;height=580\" alt=\"IMG 4317\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>At the same time, it has ensured the seats include all the practical and technological features including power and USB points, generous legroom, coat hooks, well-sized seat-back tables for all seats and space to stow a cabin-bag under each seat.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.prgloo.com\/media\/25186964359640c1be6958b8cf0fbf84?width=580&amp;height=580\" alt=\"IMG 4329\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>The new Aurora fleet includes an enhanced Wi-Fi system that uses multiple sim cards to select the best possible signal for customers.
