Works are ramping up at\u00a0Progress Street, Dandenong South<\/a>, with the start of piling marking the next stage of construction to close the level crossing and build a new road bridge connection to Fowler Road.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/span>Removing the Progress Street level crossing will make the Pakenham Line level crossing free by 2025 and will help create capacity for an additional 121,000 peak hour train commuters on the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines when the\u00a0Metro Tunnel<\/a>\u00a0opens in 2025.<\/p>\n

Piling works have been underway on the western side of Progress Street, digging 10 holes up to 30 metres deep to form the foundation of the road bridge. The piles are filled with 29 cubic meters of concrete to form the supports for the new road bridge.<\/p>\n

Works kicked off at the start of the year to undertake service relocation works and install temporary fencing, road barriers and site access.<\/p>\n

As part of the design to close the Progress Street level crossing, the team is indenting parking on Fowler Road, which will increase the drivable width from approximately 8m to 10m to further improve safety and accessibility for all road users.<\/p>\n

The Fowler Road\u2013South Gippsland Highway intersection will also be upgraded and signalised with new traffic lights to ease congestion and provide businesses in the industrial precinct safer access to the South Gippsland Highway.<\/p>\n

Project works will occur in stages to minimise disruptions, with the project team continuing to work closely with businesses throughout construction.<\/p>\n

By removing eight level crossings in the Greater Dandenong area, the Victorian Government are making journeys safer for all road users in the busy industrial area and slashing almost 6 hours of boom gate down time each morning.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
