{"id":35294,"date":"2024-05-06T09:49:33","date_gmt":"2024-05-05T23:49:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/infrastructuremagazine.com.au\/?p=52102"},"modified":"2024-05-06T09:49:33","modified_gmt":"2024-05-05T23:49:33","slug":"inland-rail-works-underway-in-wangaratta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=35294","title":{"rendered":"Inland Rail works underway in Wangaratta"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Construction work on Inland Rail in Wangaratta will temporarily change the access to the railway station and progress the Green Street demolition and re-build.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An 18-hour track possession will close the Albury line for essential work to demolish the Green Street west abutment and cut and remove the top of the east abutment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wangaratta station precinct works will include the installation of new drainage, preparatory work for the new pedestrian underpass pump station and continued backfilling and construction of the new western platform.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New drainage will also be installed at Glenrowan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From 10 to 24 May, trains will remain in service but travellers will experience changes to the access, parking and bus movements at Wangaratta station.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The southern entrance off Norton Street will be closed and vehicles will be directed to enter and exit from the northern end only with traffic management in place.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pedestrian walkway to the station will be removed and a new adjacent temporary pedestrian pathway will be installed, and some Norton Street parking bays in front of the station will be closed to be used for a temporary bus stop.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additional V\/Line staff, traffic management and extra signage will be deployed to help travellers and motorists navigate the changes around the station precinct.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inland Rail Program Delivery Director Beveridge to Albury, Ed Walker, said that work is progressing quickly in Wangaratta with lots of construction activity in the coming weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOur contractor, McConnell Dowell, will be demolishing the remaining sections of the Green Street bridge, moving ahead with the construction of the second west platform and starting work at the entrance to the station,\u201d Mr Walker said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe will not be scheduling work for 24 hours-a-day like we did earlier in the year, but there will be some disruption to travellers and motorists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe thank the community for their understanding and apologise for the inconvenience.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Featured image: Wangaratta Station front gate.
