The Spanish government approved the creation of Train Port Barcelona, a new entity that will be in charge of the development and management of the railway logistics node in the Catalan capital. The new company will see the participation of the Barcelona port authority and Spain\u2019s infrastructure manager Adif, which will co-own 50 per cent of its shares.<\/strong>
\n<\/span>It is not yet clear who will own the remaining 50 per cent of Train Port Barcelona, which will focus on the management and development of the Can Tunis and La Llagosta complexes as well as the future of the port and the rolling highway. The concession for La Llagosta will last 50 years, the Spanish Ministry of Transport stated.<\/p>\n

The facility, located 15 kilometres from Barcelona, is currently being adapted<\/a> to EU standards and will be operated by Hupac. When it comes to the Can Tunis terminal, Adif had to interrupt the tender process<\/a> for the operations of the terminal due to an appeal from one of the participants.<\/p>\n

Train Port Barcelona’s tasks<\/h2>\n

The idea of establishing Train Port Barcelona<\/a> already surfaced in July 2022, when Adif and the Barcelona Port Authority signed the first agreement. Other than managing the Can Tunis and La Llagosta terminals, the new company will also be involved in the construction of the future Intermodal Terminal of the port of Barcelona.<\/p>\n

Moreover, Train Port Barcelona will provide maneuvering and operations services throughout the Catalan port. Finally, \u201cthe company will manage and operate the Barcelona Railway Port Management Center (CFGB)\u201d, the Spanish Ministry of Transport explained. CFGB plans and coordinates the provision of services between the Can Tunis station and the railway terminals of the Port of Barcelona.<\/p>\n
