The line is part of Rail Route 4 of the extended TEN-T Core Network. It is vital in connecting the Serbian capital city Belgrade to the Mediterranean Bar port.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span id=\"more-68441\"><\/span>Via the railway, the Montenegrin Port of Bar has rail access to Central Europe. The 39-kilometre Bar-Golubovci section will get an upgrade to increase train speeds and improve reliability, safety and capacity. It will help move 1.85 million tonnes of freight annually.<\/p>\n<div style=\"border: 2px solid #0a4e7f; padding: 15px 20px 20px 20px; border-radius: 10px; background-color: #e7f1f8; margin: 20px 0;\">\n<p>The Port of Bar has become a transshipment hub for Serbian copper, transporting some 800,000 tonnes between 2020 and 2022. The port expected an income of 10 million dollars from the copper mining company through an agreement to transport 2 million tonnes by the end of 2024. In that same year, the port was added to the network of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/intermodal\/2024\/08\/08\/nis-mbox-terminal-spreads-rail-links-to-more-ports\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">Ni\u0161 MBOX intermodal terminal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"readmore\">\n<div class=\"readmore-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/railfreight\/2021\/06\/15\/tonnes-of-copper-from-serbia-on-the-train-to-port-of-bar\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Schermafbeelding-2021-06-14-om-16.41.08-128x128.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"readmore-thumbnail\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"readmore-info\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/railfreight\/2021\/06\/15\/tonnes-of-copper-from-serbia-on-the-train-to-port-of-bar\/\" class=\"readmore-title\">Copper from Serbia massively loaded on train to Port of Bar<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>The total project cost is estimated at 230.8 million euros. The investment is primarily supported by a 63 million euro loan from the European Investment Bank and a substantial 112.6 million euro grant from the European Commission, provided under the Western Balkans Investment Framework. By upgrading the Bar\u2013Golubovci section, we are not only improving safety, efficiency, and service quality, but also strengthening Montenegro\u2019s role as a key transport hub between the Western Balkans and the European Union.
