{"id":335871,"date":"2025-12-23T05:40:45","date_gmt":"2025-12-22T19:40:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?guid=d31ebf43c67d8c2f2495e01e739c796b"},"modified":"2025-12-23T05:40:45","modified_gmt":"2025-12-22T19:40:45","slug":"advocates-and-adversaries-enter-te-huia-train-debate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=335871","title":{"rendered":"Advocates and adversaries enter Te Huia train debate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Opponents and advocates of Hamilton\u2019s Te Huia rail service have entered the debate on whether the service should continue past its original trial date of June next year.<\/p>\n<p>Waikato Chamber of Commerce chief executive Don Good has fired shots at the cost of the service, and at the Waikato Regional Council\u2019s \u2018rates control team\u2019, a group of elected members who campaigned on lowering rates during October\u2019s election.<\/p>\n<p>Looking to keep Te Huia on track is national rail advocacy group The Future is Rail.<\/p>\n<p>They say a range of hurdles have been placed along the train\u2019s track in recent years, including the Covid-19 pandemic and multiple track closures.
