The scope includes:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wheel and traction motor replacement<\/li>\n<li>Paint removal and new paint application<\/li>\n<li>Replacement of specific bogie components<\/li>\n<li>Gearbox overhaul<\/li>\n<li>Axle inspection<\/li>\n<li>Electrical overhaul and testing of traction packages<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThis award is a strong vote of confidence in Crewe\u2019s capability and in the expertise of our people. Our Centre of Excellence will deliver a safe, high quality overhaul of almost 400 Networker bogies for the South East of England while sustaining skilled jobs in the North,\u201d said Mark Derbyshire, Crewe Works general manager at Alstom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great example of how Alstom\u2019s investment and Crewe\u2019s heritage are helping keep passengers moving reliably across the country every day.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The Class 465 fleet is based at Southeastern\u2019s Slade Green depot in South East London, with bogies transported to Crewe weekly for the overhaul when the project begins next year. This marks the first time in almost two decades that these have been manufactured in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>The contract signature comes just over a month since Crewe Works inaugurated a new state-of-the-art area for refurbishing heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) units. The site also unveiled a suite of new offices as part of a multi-million pound investment for the future of the Cheshire town&#8217;s historic site.<\/p>\n<p>Originally opened by the Grand Junction Railway in 1843 to manufacture steam locomotives, Crewe Works was instrumental in the development of the town, with its population growing from 500 in 1841 to more than 40,000 by 1900.<\/p>\n<p>In the UK and around the world, Alstom is the market leader in rail services, supporting customers over the entire asset lifecycle with the broadest portfolio of services solutions.
