{"id":3326,"date":"2024-01-18T00:39:04","date_gmt":"2024-01-17T14:39:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=3326"},"modified":"2024-01-18T00:39:04","modified_gmt":"2024-01-17T14:39:04","slug":"parts-arrive-at-silvis-for-up-steam-locomotives-as-restoration-gets-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=3326","title":{"rendered":"Parts Arrive at Silvis for UP Steam Locomotives As Restoration Gets Underway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>By Railfan &amp; Railroad Staff<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Railroading Heritage of Midwest America got an early Christmas gift in December when new flue tubes and stay bolts arrived for Union Pacific 4-6-6-4 3985 and 2-10-2 5511, both currently being restored in Silvis, Ill.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In 2022,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/railfan.com\/up-donates-two-steam-locomotives-to-non-profit-challenger-to-run-again\/\"><span> UP donated the two massive locomotives to RRHMA<\/span><\/a><span> for preservation and operation. The \u201cChallenger\u201d hasn\u2019t operated in more than a decade and the 5511 hasn\u2019t run since the steam era. Other pieces of equipment donated to RRHMA include DDA40X \u201cCentennial\u201d 6936, which ran earlier this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The arrival of flue tubes and stay bolts will help push the restoration forward. Other work that will be done in the new year includes rebuilding 3985\u2019s cab floor and inspecting the boiler. A timeline for the restoration\u2019s completion has not been released.
