MSC\u2019s rail subsidiary Medway is getting three new terminals in the Extremadura region of Spain, which borders Portugal. One of those three is already operational (Badajoz), but the other two will open soon.<\/strong>
\n<\/span>The terminal in M\u00e9rida is set to open before the end of 2025, according to Spanish publication El Mercantil. That was already known, but now there is also an indication of an opening date for the Navalmoral de la Mata terminal: H1 2026.<\/p>\n

Medway won a bid to operate the three terminals in 2023, and launched a joint venture with company Extremadura Avante to manage them. The Navalmoral de la Mata terminal occupies 12.5 hectares and can store 800 TEU. It should be able to handle 50,000 twenty-foot containers per year, reports El Mercantil.<\/p>\n

Navalmoral currently lies along the C\u00e1ceres-Madrid railway, but it will also link up to a hub at Talayuela. That hub provides connection to rail corridors between central Spain, Extremadura and Portugal.<\/p>\n

There are no confirmed services planned for the terminal, and the terminal operator has ruled out participating in the Tramesa\/Transitalia rail highway from Valencia.<\/p>\n
