{"id":322205,"date":"2025-11-24T20:04:40","date_gmt":"2025-11-24T10:04:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=322205"},"modified":"2025-12-07T13:24:16","modified_gmt":"2025-12-07T03:24:16","slug":"aboriginal-rants-about-systemic-racism-during-aflw-final-based-welcome-to-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=322205","title":{"rendered":"Aboriginal rants about \u2018systemic racism\u2019 during AFLW final based \u2018welcome to country\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Louisa Bonner, the CEO of Ngaran Goori Ltd, was hired to deliver the ceremony ahead of the AFLW preliminary final between the Brisbane Lions and Carlton Blues in Ipswich, southeast Queensland, on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She started off in typical fashion, but then began talking about aboriginals in youth detention, calling it a \u201cnational crisis\u201d and blaming discrimination for the disproportionate number of indigenous criminals in jail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe drivers of this crisis are well known, the ongoing impacts of colonisation and systemic racism, limited recognition of sovereignty, resistance to indigenous leadership and continued land and economic dispossession,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese issues are a matter of social justice, human rights and legal responsibility. There are other countries such as New Zealand and American native indians that are leading in these areas and addressing issues in their own country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video aligncenter\"><video height=\"270\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 480 \/ 270;\" width=\"480\" controls src=\"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/f1zS-SGlQSPes2YD.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms Bonner then went on to spruik her business, saying that her organisation\u2019s programs were aligned with United Nations initiatives related to \u201cself determination and self government\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI would also like to say that every time I\u2019m invited here by the Lions to do a welcome to country, that they\u2019re also supporting me to run those programs,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you wish to discuss us, catch up with me afterwards.
