{"id":32156,"date":"2024-04-30T11:18:29","date_gmt":"2024-04-30T01:18:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/?p=116087"},"modified":"2024-04-30T11:18:29","modified_gmt":"2024-04-30T01:18:29","slug":"srl-stations-a-step-closer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=32156","title":{"rendered":"SRL stations a step closer"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/SRL.jpeg\" alt=\"\" style=\"float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;\"><figcaption>Images\/Victoria&#8217;s Big Build<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div id=\"component_860316\">\n<p><strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/infrastructurepipeline.org\/project\/suburban-rail-loop\">Suburban Rail Loop<\/a> authority has opened Expressions of Interest for the station packages in the Suburban Rail Loop (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/works-underway-at-all-suburban-rail-loop-stations\/\">SRL<\/a>) East section.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-116087\"><\/span>The underground stations will feature plenty of natural light, hundreds of bike parking spaces, safe and easy connections between Metro trains, buses and trams, and a minimum five Green Star rating.<\/p>\n<p>Expressions of Interest are now open for two contracts to deliver state-of-the-art stations fit for the future and Melbourne\u2019s growing population. The new stations will be delivered at Box Hill, Burwood, Glen Waverley, Monash, Clayton and Cheltenham.<\/p>\n<p>SRL East stations will be among the busiest in Victoria, seamlessly connecting passengers to metro and regional rail \u2013 15,000 passengers are expected to pass through Box Hill and Clayton stations every day.<\/p>\n<p>Concept designs released for each of the new SRL stations reveal features inspired by the history of each local area. For instance, the sand mining around Monash and the Heidelberg School artists\u2019 camp in Box Hill have inspired the colours and designs of the stations.<\/p>\n<p>Tunnelling for SRL East starts in 2026, with the contract to build 16kms of twin tunnels between Cheltenham and Glen Waverley awarded late last year, and the Tunnels North contract to be awarded later this year.<\/p>\n<p>Two global bidders have also been shortlisted for the Linewide Alliance contract \u2013 to build the fleet of high-tech SRL trains, fit out the tunnels and operate and maintain the SRL East network.<\/p>\n<p>SRL East from Cheltenham to Box Hill will connect key employment, health and education centres in Melbourne\u2019s east and south east, with trains taking passengers from 2035.
