I rang the conductor and asked for a few minutes to check on them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After securing his cab, Simon went to investigate and discovered a person lying unconscious, not breathing, and with a serious head injury.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing on his previous experience as a lifeguard, he immediately began CPR while asking the conductor to call for an ambulance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just acted on instinct,\u201d Simon said. \u201cOnce I realised, they weren\u2019t breathing, all my old training kicked in. When they started breathing again, it was a huge relief. I was just glad I could help until the ambulance arrived.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on the recognition, he said: \u201cI feel really proud to have received this award. We spend every day doing our best to keep people safe, and this experience reminded me how important that really is.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has also shown me just how valuable first aid knowledge can be \u2013 you never know when you might need it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rob Cox, operations director for TPE, said: \u201cSimon\u2019s calm and courageous response made an important difference.
