{"id":318811,"date":"2025-11-18T22:56:16","date_gmt":"2025-11-18T12:56:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/railuk.com\/?p=185465"},"modified":"2025-11-18T22:56:16","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T12:56:16","slug":"digital-signalling-testing-affects-passenger-services-this-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=318811","title":{"rendered":"Digital signalling testing affects passenger services this weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/railuk.com\/travel\/digital-signalling-testing-affects-passenger-services-this-weekend\/\" title=\"Digital signalling testing affects passenger services this weekend\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"485\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/18125440\/ECDP-work-Netwprk-Rail-485x360.jpg\" class=\"webfeedsFeaturedVisual wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" style=\"display: block; margin-bottom: 5px; clear:both;max-width: 100%;\" link_thumbnail=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/18125440\/ECDP-work-Netwprk-Rail-485x360.jpg 485w, https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/18125440\/ECDP-work-Netwprk-Rail-80x60.jpg 80w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A large section of the railway south of Peterborough will be closed this weekend (22 and 23 November) to allow for further testing of digital signalling, passengers are reminded.<\/p>\n<p>The work between Welwyn Garden City and Hitchin in Hertfordshire will involve trains transitioning in and out of the digitally-controlled section.<\/p>\n<p>Further work will develop the trackside equipment, under the \u00a31.4 billion East Coast Digital Programme (ECDP) introducing in-cab digital signalling on the line \u2013 delivering greener, safer and more reliable journeys for passengers.<\/p>\n<p>Other work taking place on the same weekend, to use the period when trains are not running most effectively, includes track renewal at Letchworth Garden City, rerailing at Welwyn and Wymondley and drainage improvements at Stevenage.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-wistia-inc wp-block-embed-wistia-inc\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"ECDP Comms 2 The driver_s eye view... 16x9 Video\" src=\"https:\/\/fast.wistia.net\/embed\/iframe\/qk75ba8o9f?dnt=1#?secret=HuVLUsIxk2\" data-secret=\"HuVLUsIxk2\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>It means that this weekend there will be no Grand Central services, while Hull Trains will operate an amended service running to and from London St Pancras.<\/p>\n<p>LNER will have rail replacement coaches between Peterborough and Bedford, where customers can join train services to London St Pancras.<\/p>\n<p>Lumo will operate an amended service between Edinburgh and Newcastle only.<\/p>\n<p>There will be no Thameslink or Great Northern trains between Potters Bar and Peterborough\/Royston, or between Hertford North and Stevenage.<\/p>\n<p>Ricky Barsby, Network Rail\u2019s head of access integration, ECDP, said: \u201cThe work taking place, including further testing, is part of our preparations for the introduction of digital in-cab signalling on the East Coast Main Line. We are also taking the opportunity to carry out vital work at other East Coast locations during the same weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe encourage passengers to plan ahead and check before they travel, and thank them for their patience and understanding of this work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the train operators added: \u201cWe will be working hard to keep passengers on the move while this essential engineering work takes place.
