{"id":312358,"date":"2025-11-17T09:51:01","date_gmt":"2025-11-16T23:51:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=312358"},"modified":"2025-11-17T09:51:28","modified_gmt":"2025-11-16T23:51:28","slug":"wow-track-investigation-train-at-swan-hill-n12-suddenly-pops-up-in-melb-yard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=312358","title":{"rendered":"Wow, Track Investigation Train at Swan Hill  and N12 suddenly pops up in Melb Yard!!!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>It seems Coincidental that  IVE track investigation train pops up after those storms that rattled through Vic<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong> A string of events taken place recently and it seem uncanny and  surreal seeing it all unfold before my very eyes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">I don&#8217;t know how I managed to catch this track inspection train at Swan Hill station to snap a few pic but I did somehow&#8230;..As I had no info to the location of this train <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><em>9\/11 -VN10 <\/em><\/strong> I got off the morning service to happy to see the <strong>Track Investigation Train<\/strong> <strong>[IVE] <\/strong>which I fondly call <em><strong>Elvis<\/strong><\/em> after a famous singer!\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> hauled by two loco  <strong><em>P Class  &amp; T<\/em><\/strong> <strong>Class<\/strong> <em>former shunting locomotives<\/em> waiting for our train to arrive before leaving the Siding at Swan Hill!\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On the return <strong>BZN258<\/strong> air-conditioning system had failed  a bit warm for most people in my case it was just nice as it was getting cooler outside late afternoon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>11\/11 Nov <\/strong>from<strong> VN14&#8217;s BZN258<\/strong> window I saw <strong>N12<\/strong> in yard tucked away behind a few <strong>VLocitys <\/strong>IMU rail cars departing Southern Cross.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One the return <strong>VN10 at Bendigo Rly Workshop<\/strong> in the afternoon before arriving to <strong>Bendigo station <\/strong>for the school bags special.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pacific National&#8217;s G class <\/strong>at Kyneton. very rare to see this during peak hr during the week.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>12\/11 VN14 <\/strong>On<strong> <\/strong>route from<strong> Footscray<\/strong> that day Slight spike <strong>07:53<\/strong> in fluro tube of carriage could be <strong>N458 <\/strong>or the train got bounced too hard during or after those storms at <strong> 3-4 \/11<\/strong>?\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Is it possible the stormy, wet weather made a few good mud holes here and and there on route ?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It seem fairly rough felt a lot rougher on some sections and noticed a few trees down on route along the the way. \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Some seem look they were struck by lightning it looked a bit black around the edges where it was broken and lying on the ground near by.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong> <\/strong>Before pulling in at <strong>Swan Hill Station<\/strong>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I was peering out the window before it&#8217;s occurrence I heard the<strong> &#8220;click&#8221; <\/strong>in the train<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> Turn my head in time, just to saw the light go out in the carriage including the emergency lights!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>train lost lights\/power<strong> 12:35 <\/strong>before arriving at Swan Hill!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"> <strong><em>Oye! Lights out!!!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Shortly after they reset it to get light\/power back after we arrived at Swan Hill.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2025-11-13-20.44.56-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-317870\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2025-11-13-20.44.56-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2025-11-13-20.44.56-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2025-11-13-20.44.56-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2025-11-13-20.44.56.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">N12 reappearing again after being away at Bendigo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading alignwide has-text-align-center\">On arrival saw a company car of v\/line parked next the station as the crew was prepping the train for the return <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>I saw 3 guys with high vis walking down the rail corridor in light blue shirts..<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">I<strong>nteresting, I wonder if the rail infrastructure dept or engineers  assessing the rail corridor for upgrades?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Beforehand off <strong>Kerang <\/strong>on the down direction I noticed which seem to me to be some sort of measurements sprayed in <strong>yellow <\/strong>next the rail line <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> On one my trips as I passed <strong>Kerang <\/strong>station I saw guy with wheel thing which I am aware take big long continuous measurements for something.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Notice  on the return <strong>N460<\/strong> in Bendigo sliding which sheltered amongst a  <strong>P or T SSR B <\/strong>sitting around reason seem unknown the rare sight was <strong>Pacific National G Class loco<\/strong> is now sitting there with a red flag on it front coupler!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Questions to considered of these odd events taking place.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I wonder if there something emerging that very few people know but not letting on as for now thing are very uncertain as to upgrades to <strong>Swan Hill Line<\/strong>?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As I believe the state budgets is currently too tight do the rolling stock and track upgrade properly to a certain acceptable standard for the <strong>&#8220;Regional&#8221; <\/strong>rail travelling  condition <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>why not defer it and get back to it when the funding issues have stabilised? <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It strange how<strong> N12 <\/strong>pops up in Melb yard but now as only<strong> 4 cars!<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>From my experience the on Swan Hill Evening service are often busy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Melb to Bendigo<\/strong> plenty of people during the evening peck  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>between <strong>Bendigo and Swan Hill<\/strong> you have a good crowd people boarding why reduce it to 4 cars?\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The 4 car could be <strong>BZN265 <\/strong>with the <strong>rivets<\/strong> on rollingstock out line, that often made nasty noise when scrapped <strong>Albion <\/strong>platform whist the train was passing by<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Did they retire because it scrapped platforms or are they storing it somewhere?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In regard with adding a carriages when most have being given alway to groups and sold off how reinstating those carriages that seemly has not turned a wheel since few groups got them?\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ie: <strong>Castlemaine<\/strong> by the mainline in view of the public 3 older classic carriages sitting there not being used or operated currently it hasn&#8217;t turn a wheel while since it was reallocate to that group to care, operate them there.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What more, there rust patches exposed in the paint work and you can see rust stains down its side <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>torn tarp on the roof hatch area containing the Air conditioning system in the carriage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plus the curtain some partly fallen down inside the carriages<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It not a good look to see such fine carriages in state of disrepair.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how about<strong> V\/Line<\/strong> management take back the one of the three carriages located there without the rivets to make <strong>N12<\/strong> 5 cars again which is currently the<strong> standard length <\/strong>of the Classic fleet?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2025-11-13-20.46.56-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-317871\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2025-11-13-20.46.56-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2025-11-13-20.46.56-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2025-11-13-20.46.56.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">EVI Track Investigation Train after arriving at Swan Hill<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>Some on seeing this in public view could be thinking<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">&#8220;<em>By golly, if that group can&#8217;t justify maintaining or operate those carriages of classic fleet  on regular basis why put your hand up for them?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">As I believe in this common saying or proverb when come to upgrades be rail or anything else:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>&#8221; If Aren&#8217;t broke, Don&#8217;t Fix It&#8230;&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">As with current issues on the upgrades for Regional Rail users I will slightly modify this well known saying as written below.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">I<strong>f aren&#8217;t broke don&#8217;t  fix it ,by breaking it to fix it and making it <\/strong><em><strong>WORSE!!<\/strong><\/em><strong><em>!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">On returning on <strong>12\/11 <\/strong>I saw <strong>N12 <\/strong>tucked away and <strong>VN17<\/strong>  was missing not sure what happen to it properly being worked on whist <strong>VN10 <\/strong>took the Evening run and Y came up promptly after arrival to take <strong>VN14 <\/strong> back to the yard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Whist leaving I saw N class pop up and moving around the station.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">This Morning service 13\/11 07:39 was replace with VLocity DMU and coach from Bendigo onward both directions!<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Reason Given was by V\/Line was <strong>Crew delays<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"792\" height=\"912\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2025-11-13-20.57.48.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-317869\" style=\"width:636px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2025-11-13-20.57.48.jpg 792w, https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2025-11-13-20.57.48-261x300.jpg 261w, https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2025-11-13-20.57.48-768x884.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 792px) 100vw, 792px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Pacific National G class (G531) at Kyneton snapped from BZN 262<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Conclusion:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">I am was not  entirely convinced the crew was responsible for the change of rolling stock as 13\/11 <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Quoted from V\/Line website: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>&#8220;the 07:39 Southern Cross -Swan Hill Service will end early at Bendigo and no longer run to<\/em> Sw<em>an Hill&#8230;.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">As 9\/12 I saw VN14 being taken away empty in push pull configuration down the mainline it seems possible to looked at due issues before departure and V\/Line said the train was delayed due <strong>crew delays <\/strong>when it was shortage of rolling stock as at  the time <strong>VN10<\/strong> was hauled out the yard at short notice leaving no spares!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> Is there some sort of issues emerging with in the operator between frontline &amp; top managers?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I wonder if <strong>N12 <\/strong>was rostered to run this morning service after being out of use so long stationary at Bendigo since <strong>Jun 25?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>I would thought they would gone through some test run to ensure everything was working properly before using it!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>N locomotives,<\/strong> I understand only handful remains in V\/Line it seems lack of them as most have being sold off to a freight operator who uses them to pull their freight trains which is not light work!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Could it be other railway operators within the industry are laughing at them for giving or selling away rolling stock  when the issues of fleet availably is not being addressed properly?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">What a dog&#8217;s breakfast!!!<\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After storms EVI appears at Swan Hill &#038;
