Optus<\/a> has confirmed an outage in the Hunter Valley region which has affected mobile voice and data services, and may affect triple-zero connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of 3pm on Wednesday, the telecommunications company announced that a fibre break in the Port Stephens, Maitland, and surrounding areas had caused disruptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are responding to a fibre break impacting customers in the Port Stephens, Maitland, and surrounding areas,\u201d the network update said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe ability to connect to triple zero may be impacted for some. Optus technicians are onsite working to restore services as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe apologise to impacted customers and will continue to provide regular updates.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company said that more than 34,000 services may be affected by the disruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s understood the outage is likely a result of vandalism and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a suspected copper wire theft. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The outage comes just weeks after the embattled company suffered two other triple zero outages, one of which was linked to three deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company\u2019s CEO, Stephen Rue, has faced intense scrutiny over his handling of the crisis but defended his position on Monday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
