The Greens and Labor have blocked a bid by shadow home affairs minister Jonno Duniam to force transparency on the government\u2019s handling of arrivals from Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The motion<\/a> sought all written advice and question time briefs since 29 September 2025 relating to migration pathways and special visa arrangements for Gazans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It aimed to give voters clarity on how the Albanese government was managing the intake of people from the war-torn enclave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liberal and Nationals senators, along with independents Tammy Tyrell and Fatima Payman, voted in favour of the motion, which was defeated 27-34.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Greens and Labor have blocked a bid by shadow home affairs minister Jonno Duniam to force transparency on the government\u2019s handling of arrivals from Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The political clash comes as Australia has continued to accept refugees from Gaza, despite a ceasefire brokered in the region by US President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sky News reported in October<\/a> that the Albanese government could allow 600 to 700 more Gazans to settle in Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke addressed the National Press Club at the time, where he confirmed that as many as 700 Gazans may arrive to Australia in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey would have been here some time ago, but they haven\u2019t been able to get out (of Gaza). Some of them may well start coming,\u201d he said, when asked by Sky News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
