Shipping giant MSC is expanding its rail portfolio with a new connection between Batajnica, near the Serbian capital Belgrade, and the Italian port of Trieste. This link will provide Serbia with another port on the Adriatic Sea after Koper and Rijeka, the main hubs for the country’s exports.<\/strong>
\n<\/span>Trains will run weekly with a capacity of 76 TEU per journey. The main beneficiaries should be Serbian automotive parts, ores, machinery, packaging materials and consumer goods. “By linking inland Serbia with the Adriatic, we\u2019re opening up new import and export opportunities, shorter transit times, reduced congestion, and reliable access to key destinations”.<\/p>\n

MSC in Trieste<\/h2>\n

This new service with Serbia underscores MSC’s rising interest in the port of Trieste. Over the past couple of years, the company became majority shareholder of the Trieste Marine Terminal, one of the main rail freight facility in the port. Moreover, MSC took over a dismissed area formerly and turned it into a rolling stock production factory.<\/p>\n
