Four people suffered minor injuries, but none required hospital treatment. It has now stood down its major incident status.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our colleagues have assessed a total of 87 patients, with only four suffering minor injuries,&#8221; said a North West Ambulance Service statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No one required further hospital treatment, and all were discharged from the nearby rest centre.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;An operation remains in place with our partners as they continue to recover the scene.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sam MacDougall, director of operations at Network Rail, told a press conference this morning that the infrastructure operator is undertaking a &#8220;full and thorough&#8221; investigation into the cause of the derailment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Early indications would suggest that the train has struck a landslide just north of where it now stands,&#8221; Sam said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The train design has worked extremely well, the vehicle has remained upright,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Network Rail statement in full after Avanti train derailment\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yDRl3HUHUCQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Network Rail has given a statement after a train derailed in Cumbria.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The derailment is causing significant disruption on the Avanti West Coast and TransPenine Express services that use the West Coast Mainline. Both operators are urging passengers not to attempt to travel north of Preston today.<\/p>\n<p>Trains will be much busier on east coast routes for passengers travelling to and from Scotland.
