The container leasing and trading company Dutch Container Merchants has announced a deal with banana producer Chiquita involving 1,000 high-tech containers.<\/strong>
\n<\/span>\u201cWe\u2019re proud to announce our latest deal with Chiquita, the world\u2019s largest banana producer, for 1,000 brand-new 40HC Reefer containers equipped with Carrier Transicold Container Refrigeration OptimaLine technology and Controlled Atmosphere systems\u201d, Dutch Container Merchants says. The containers in question offer increased internal volume for lightweight but high-volume shipments.<\/p>\n

Chiquita has been trying to renew its container park to save on energy costs. Bananas need to be cooled for transportation, and energy-efficient reefers will help suppress logistics expenses. Earlier, Chiquita grew its container fleet by 25%, while also reducing energy use by 11%. Now, the choice for container fleet expansion has befallen supplier Dutch Container Merchants, which cites its flexibility, competitiveness and reliability as key factors.<\/p>\n
