The Telecommunications and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2025 has passed the Senate, expanding government powers to intercept calls, access private messages, retrieve stored data, and compel tech companies including Meta, Apple and Microsoft to assist in giving law enforcement broader surveillance access over Australians. <\/p>\n\n\n

Greens Senator David Shoebridge attempted to remove \u2018Schedule 4\u2019 which would force big tech to comply. The bill passed 30\u201310, with support from Labor, Liberal and One Nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For those interested @DavidShoebridge<\/a> was against this bill because of his Trump Derangement Syndrome but to be fair he wanted to remove Schedule 4 because US big tech companies could access your data, and he didn\u2019t want that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, a person who is not the direct target of an investigation can now have their communications intercepted, another concern he tried to address.<\/strong> And he wanted the bill to go to Committee before being passed but failed, so TDS but also kudos.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
