{"id":30831,"date":"2024-04-25T00:37:47","date_gmt":"2024-04-24T14:37:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=30831"},"modified":"2024-04-25T00:37:47","modified_gmt":"2024-04-24T14:37:47","slug":"c2c-issues-record-breaking-10k-fine-to-historic-and-persistent-fare-evader","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=30831","title":{"rendered":"c2c issues record-breaking \u00a310k fine to historic and persistent fare evader\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.c2c-online.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">c2c<\/a> has said that ongoing work to crackdown on fare evasion across the route continues to be a great success \u2013 with approximately \u00a3130k received in fines and penalty payments so far this year \u2013 including one persistent fare evader being caught and ordered to pay \u00a310k* in historic unpaid fares dating back to 2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Iain Palmer, c2c\u2019s Head of Revenue Protection &amp; Security, said: \u201cFare evasion, whether deliberately or inadvertently, is a criminal offence and c2c will always look to prosecute those who attempt to cheat the system.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have recently increased the number of Revenue Protection officers patrolling our stations and trains, especially during the off-peak, and we now have more eyes and ears monitoring and closing in on customers who frequently travel without a valid ticket.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Fare evasion costs the rail industry millions of pounds every single year and is also a key contributor to anti-social behaviour across the rail network.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>*A customer recently travelling through one of c2c\u2019s London stations was asked to present their rail ticket to a Revenue Protection officer as part of a routine inspection. The customer in question did not have a valid ticket for the full length of the journey they had just made, and on further investigation it was found that the customer had been making this same trip and cheating the system for nearly 5 years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Operating in partnership with the British Transport Police, c2c\u2019s Revenue Protection and Security Teams are out on the route, seven days a week \u2013 from first trains until last \u2013 working to catch and apprehend those who do not have a valid ticket for their journey.
