Translink Infrastructure and Projects Division hosted the 34th Global Level Crossing Network Meeting in Northern Ireland on the 16th & 17th October.<\/p>\n

A meeting to discuss advances in level crossing safety and technology involved delegates from a variety of countries including the UK and Ireland, Croatia, Denmark, The Netherlands, Germany, Portugal and France, with others attending virtually from across the Globe including the USA and Belgium.<\/p>\n

Best practices and technological advances to ensure safety at level crossings were discussed among those in attendance.<\/p>\n

The delegates who had travelled to Northern Ireland also visited Muckamore View Crossing where work is in progress on an overbridge that will ultimately lead to the closure of this and one other user-worked crossing.<\/p>\n

The group was also taken to Whitehead to view the full barrier footpath crossing, located adjacent to Whitehead station. They also took the opportunity to visit the Whitehead Railway Museum, viewing some trains that historically operated on the NI Railways network in years gone by, also marking #Railway200, the 200th<\/sup> anniversary of the modern railway.<\/p>\n

Translink\u2019s Head of Network Assurance Ian Morrow commented: \u201cWe were delighted to host the Global Level Crossings Network and showcase our fantastic achievements on reducing Level Crossing risk in Northern Ireland to experts from around the world.  It was also very useful to hear about developments in other countries and the use of technology and best practices to ensure safety around level crossings\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Global Level Crossing Network event was opened by from Allan Spence, Chair of the GLCN and Chris Conway, Group Chief Executive of Translink.<\/p>\n
