{"id":306173,"date":"2025-10-23T21:42:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T11:42:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/?p=66853"},"modified":"2025-10-23T21:42:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T11:42:09","slug":"european-commission-intends-to-drop-amendments-to-combined-transport-directive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=306173","title":{"rendered":"European Commission intends to drop amendments to Combined Transport Directive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The European Commission (EC) said it intends to withdraw amendments to the Combined Transport Directive, one of the pillars of the Greening Freight Package. \u201cWe are working hard to ensure that the dossier is not withdrawn within the next six months, as the Commission would be able to do\u201d, the rapporteur of the Directive Flavio Tosi MEP told RailFreight.com<\/strong><br \/>\n<span id=\"more-66853\"><\/span>However, it is not (yet) time to worry, according to UIRR Director General Ralf-Charley Schultze. \u201cThe Commission just expressed an intention, it is not a legally binding decision. We\u2019ll just have to wait and see what Tosi and the rest of the Parliament will manage to do\u201d, Schultze said.<\/p>\n<h2>\u2018No public consultation\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>In its Commission work 2026 programme, the EC said it wants to withdraw amendments on the \u201csupport framework for intermodal transport\u201d and the \u201ccalculation of external cost savings and generation of aggregated data\u201d. UIRR said it regrets this development, \u201cabout which the European Commission has not conducted any sort of public consultation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Tosim in addition, pointed out that the European Parliament already scheduled the presentation of a study, commissioned by the rapporteur himself, which \u201cwill provide an updated analysis of the situation of combined transport in Europe, providing new foundations for legislative work\u201d. Another point raised by Tosi is that \u201cthe final decision will be up to the Commission, especially given the still divergent positions among Member States in the Council.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"readmore\">\n<div class=\"readmore-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/policy\/2025\/06\/27\/fusion-of-combined-transport-and-weights-and-dimensions-directive-remains-unlikely\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Flavio-Tosi-MEP-rapporteur-of-the-Combined-Transport-Directive-128x128.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"readmore-thumbnail\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"readmore-info\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/policy\/2025\/06\/27\/fusion-of-combined-transport-and-weights-and-dimensions-directive-remains-unlikely\/\" class=\"readmore-title\">\u2018Fusion of Combined Transport and Weights and Dimensions Directive remains unlikely\u2019<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Schultze, in addition, stressed the need for a long-term perspective, highlighting how Tosi and the TRAN committee should be given a chance before a final decision is taken.
