Tensions have boiled over as March for Australia and counter-protesters took to the streets of Melbourne<\/a> and other capital cities for the second time in as many months, with two Victoria Police officers hospitalised following the protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hundreds of police officers, a group composed of both those in riot gear and mounted police, separated a March for Australia group estimated to be in the thousands, and a group of anti-racism protesters in Melbourne’s centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

March for Australia<\/a> protesters were clad in Australian flags, with some waving anti-immigration banners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In contrast, counter-protesters carried a range of banners and signs with anti-fascist and anti-racist slogans, while others waved Palestinian, Somali and Aboriginal flags.<\/p>\n\n\n

A 30-year-old woman was arrested in Melbourne, with police deploying crowd control measures, including OC (or pepper) spray, flash-bangs and rubber bullets during a tense stand-off with counter protesters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tom Elliott<\/a> had his say on Sunday\u2019s violent CBD protests<\/a>, saying the city was losing millions each week as locals stay away. But of course and as usual there are no facts to back up his wild claims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
