{"id":303127,"date":"2025-10-17T21:07:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-17T11:07:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/railuk.com\/?p=184124"},"modified":"2025-10-17T21:07:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T11:07:08","slug":"over-1-5-million-pay-as-you-go-rail-journeys-in-wales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=303127","title":{"rendered":"Over 1.5 million \u2018pay as you go\u2019 rail journeys in Wales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over 1.5 million pay as you go rail journeys have now been made on Transport for Wales (TfW) routes in South Wales.<\/p>\n<p>The tap on, tap off technology was launched in November 2024 and has become Transport for Wales\u2019 fastest selling rail product.<\/p>\n<p>TfW became the first train operator outside of London and the South East of England to introduce this payment system and is leading the way in the UK rail industry.<\/p>\n<p>The pay as you go system is currently available across 95 stations as part of the South Wales Metro project, ensuring customers receive the maximum discount for their journeys.<\/p>\n<p>TfW is investing \u00a3800 million in brand-new trains across the Wales and Borders rail network and Pay As You Go ticketing will be expanded to Network North Wales next year.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"45kqeiczaKY\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Experience smoother train travel with contactless pay as you go\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/45kqeiczaKY?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales, Ken Skates, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s fantastic news that so many people have been benefiting from quick, simple and cost-effective fares through TfW\u2019s pay as you go service.
