{"id":302614,"date":"2025-10-17T01:59:25","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T15:59:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/railuk.com\/?p=184050"},"modified":"2025-10-17T01:59:25","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T15:59:25","slug":"salford-crescents-21m-upgrades-for-passengers-now-75-complete","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=302614","title":{"rendered":"Salford Crescent\u2019s \u00a321m upgrades for passengers now 75% complete"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Passengers are another step closer to benefiting from the multi-million-pound overhaul of Salford Crescent station to improve journeys from next year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Throughout 2025, Network Rail and its contractor partner Kier Construction have been building a third platform with stair and lift access from the ticket hall.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In recent weeks new platform canopies and staircases have been craned into position during the final full weekend closure of the station between 13 and 14 September.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The remaining work to complete the project can now be carried out without the need to close the railway.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When ready early next year, \u200bthe opening of a third platform will improve passenger flow and reduce train delays by allowing more flexibility for trains travelling through central Manchester and across the country.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-wistia-inc wp-block-embed-wistia-inc\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"How the third platform at Salford Crescent is progressing _ Network Rail Video\" src=\"https:\/\/fast.wistia.net\/embed\/iframe\/adtq5c9cv4?dnt=1#?secret=7z1I5UWBzp\" data-secret=\"7z1I5UWBzp\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>That\u2019s because the extra platform will mean railway \u200bsignallers will have more options to ease traffic jams on the busy Manchester to Preston line, which includes stops throughout Greater Manchester and at Manchester Airport.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The work will be fully completed in Spring 2026 and is now 75% finished.<\/p>\n<p><strong>James Ashley, Network Rail scheme project manager, said:<\/strong>\u202f\u201cWe\u2019d like to thank passengers travelling through Salford Crescent this year for their patience while we\u2019ve been carrying out these transformational upgrades.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve worked very closely with our partners and contractors to keep the disruption to a minimum. It\u2019s great to see the new facilities really taking shape, with the stairs, lift shafts and platform canopies progressing at pace and giving a real sense of what the station will look like when it\u2019s complete next year.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jonathan Moran, senior project manager at Kier, said:<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cWe\u2019ve reached several key milestones recently that bring our expected Spring completion date ever closer.
