{"id":302067,"date":"2025-10-16T01:12:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T15:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/railuk.com\/?p=183928"},"modified":"2025-10-16T01:12:00","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T15:12:00","slug":"planned-improvement-work-and-strike-action-means-no-trains-between-bristol-temple-meads-and-weston-super-mare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=302067","title":{"rendered":"Planned improvement work and strike action means no trains between Bristol Temple Meads and Weston-super-Mare"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Great Western Railway services between Bristol and Weston-super-Mare will be affected by rail improvement work taking this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>With strike action affecting CrossCountry services, this means there will also be no train services between Bristol Temple Meads and Taunton on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Engineering works will affect train services on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 October:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Replacement buses are planned between Bristol Temple Meads and Weston-super-Mare, but these will not stop at Bedminster or Parson Street stations<\/li>\n<li>As an alternative, valid rail tickets can be used to travel on local bus services in the area including the A1 Airport Flyer for Bedminster or Parson Street stations<\/li>\n<li>GWR trains will still operate between Weston-super-Mare and Exeter St Davids<\/li>\n<li>CrossCountry trains will still operate on Sunday only between Bristol Temple Meads and Taunton by using an alternative route \u2013 extending journey times by up to an hour<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Ben Scott, GWR Station Manager for the Bristol area, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis investment forms part of a wider programme of works to maintain and improve rail services in the area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrains for London Paddington, Cardiff Central, Avonmouth, or Gloucester are unaffected; but it\u2019s important that customers going south are aware that alternative arrangements will make journey times much longer, so please plan ahead.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bradley Wallace, Lead Portfolio Manager for Network Rail, commented:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the weekend we\u2019ll be replacing two worn sections of Bristol West Junction; the vital piece of the railway that enables trains to change lines on the south west side of Bristol Temple Meads, on their way to and from the Westcountry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s obviously a very busy part of the network in the Bristol area and the work we\u2019re doing is vital for the continued safe and reliable running of the railway.&nbsp;I\u2019d like to thank passengers for their patience while we complete this essential maintenance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additional track work, drainage improvements and inspections are taking place at various locations along the line, including the Bedminster area, Parson Street station and Flax Bourton tunnel.<\/p>\n<p>Further engineering work is planned between Bristol Temple Meads and Bath Spa from Monday 27 to Thursday 30 October.<\/p>\n<p>For the latest information, visit&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gwr.com\/travel-information\/travel-updates\/planned-engineering\">GWR.com\/Upgrade<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Image credit: GWR<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Great Western Railway services between Bristol and Weston-super-Mare will be affected by rail improvement work taking this weekend.
