Work is underway on the first of the seven new elevated train stations planned as part of METRONET\u2019s Armadale Line transformation project, with more than 150m of elevated rail constructed to allow for the works commence.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new station \u2013 Carlisle \u2013 will include two ground level entrances serviced by stairs, four lifts, 57 parking bays and bike storage.<\/span><\/p>\n

It will also provide new public open spaces underneath the station and elevated rail with plans for a playground, fitness park, nature play, and shared paths.<\/span><\/p>\n

New stations are also being built at Oats Street, Queens Park, Cannington, Beckenham, Armadale, and Byford.<\/span><\/p>\n

Along with seven new train stations, the upgrades will see 5.5km of elevated rail constructed, and 6ha of new public open space created, while 13 level crossings have already been removed.<\/span><\/p>\n

The METRONET Armadale Line upgrades are comprised of the Victoria Park Level Crossing Removal project, and the Byford Rail Extension project \u2013 with both jointly funded by the Federal and Western Australian Governments.<\/span><\/p>\n

The projects form part of the METRONET program, across which the Federal Government has committed an investment of $4.18 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Catherine King, said that she is delighted to see this latest important step in transforming the Armadale Line.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Since the Armadale Line upgrade started in November, nearly 40km of track has been removed, along with more than 30,000t of ballast and 38,000 rail sleepers,\u201d Ms King said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Seven train stations were also demolished to make way for the new elevated rail, giving a sense of the scale of this transformational nation-building project.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Western Australian Minister for Transport, Rita Saffioti, said that the upgrades to the Armadale Line are moving ahead at a rapid pace.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI want to commend all of the teams involved for the incredible progress that has been made in only a few months,\u201d Ms Saffioti said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Starting works on the first elevated station is a big milestone for the Armadale Line upgrades, and the community is already starting to see how this project will provide significant benefits by reducing congestion, and delivering new public open space and modern infrastructure.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Works on the elevated structure will continue to progress in the coming weeks and months – with the focus being on the sites of our new train stations, which will allow construction of those new stations to commence.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Within the next few months, construction will be underway on all seven new stations on the Armadale Line, marking the peak construction phase for the project.”<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
