River Rail station design finalised"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Queensland Government has released the final design of the new Pimpama train station, marking a major step forward for the connecting of the fast-growing community to South East Queensland\u2019s heavy rail network.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pimpama is one of three new stations \u2013 alongside Hope Island and Merrimac \u2013 being delivered on the Gold Coast through Cross River Rail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following community consultation, ADCO Constructions was appointed to design and construct the station, with construction starting in late 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since then, work has been underway to finalise the design of the station in parallel with the construction program, taking into account community feedback.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new Pimpama station will include lifts on each platform, accessible car parks and taxi bays, and accessible wayfinding.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Key features of the station include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pedestrian station access via Kosciuszko Circuit<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More bike infrastructure, including outdoor bicycle racks as well as the 40-bicycle lock up enclosure<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Larger taxi and kiss \u2018n\u2019 ride bays, wayfinding signage and platform access<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Connections to bus services and active transport paths<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">380 parks when the station opens<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Significant progress is being made at Pimpama, with 189 piles already installed for the station\u2019s platform foundations and retaining wall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, builders are preparing to put in the structural steel frames for the platforms, as well as new overhead electrical portals that will span the station building.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Major construction is expected to be completed by late 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following several crucial stages to ensure the station can operate safely and efficiently, including a period of extensive testing and commissioning and integration with existing public transport services, Pimpama station is then expected to open in 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elsewhere on the Gold Coast, early works and site set up activities are underway at Hope Island and Merrimac stations, with major construction to begin at both sites in the coming months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Bart Mellish, said that Pimpama is one of the fastest growing suburbs in Australia, which makes it important that residents can make the most of the state\u2019s rail revolution.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBuilding this station means Pimpama locals won\u2019t need to commute to Ormeau or Coomera station to jump on the train, which will make a huge difference for locals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe new Pimpama station won\u2019t just benefit Gold Coasters when it opens \u2013 it is supporting 535 jobs for Queenslanders during construction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe want to make sure this station meets the needs of Pimpama locals, which is why we\u2019ve made a number of changes to the design after receiving feedback from the community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPimpama will be a fully accessible station, and include through-lifts on each platform, and accessible car parks, taxi zones and kiss \u2018n\u2019 ride bays.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:
