A massive rail bridge is under construction in South Geelong to accommodate the removal of the Fyans Street level crossing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Key sections of the bridge that will replace the congested Fyans Street level crossing and roundabout in South Geelong have been delivered to site ready for assembly.<\/span><\/p>\n

Work to assemble the three bridge spans is underway onsite at the Fyans Street construction compound, before the full bridge structure is moved into place in late 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n

The central span of the new rail bridge over Fyans Street will be made from four steel girders totalling 400t, which were manufactured and delivered from Haywards in Launceston.<\/span><\/p>\n

The steel girders and 27 cross girders travelled more than 700km by ship to the Port of Melbourne then by truck to site, where the concrete deck and maintenance walkways will be installed.<\/span><\/p>\n

A further two bridge spans made up of precast concrete \u2018Super T\u2019 beams that will sit either end of the steel girder bridge were also delivered, with eight 70t, 1.5m-high, 25m-long beams manufactured at Westkon Precast in Melton.<\/span><\/p>\n

Local road users are asked to plan ahead in April, with the five-way roundabout to be closed for two-weeks to safely carry out 24-hour works on critical water main and drainage installation.<\/span><\/p>\n

These works will prepare for the installation of the new rail bridge and road alignment, with the roundabout and connecting roads closed from 10 to 24 April.<\/span><\/p>\n
