{"id":29951,"date":"2024-04-12T14:25:35","date_gmt":"2024-04-12T04:25:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/infrastructuremagazine.com.au\/?p=51870"},"modified":"2024-04-12T14:25:35","modified_gmt":"2024-04-12T04:25:35","slug":"golden-plains-wind-farm-hits-milestone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=29951","title":{"rendered":"Golden Plains Wind Farm hits milestone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than 500,000t of Vestas wind turbine equipment has travelled through GeelongPort to the $2 billion 756MW Golden Plains Wind Farm, which is being developed by TagEnergy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GeelongPort\u2019s General Manager Commercial, Elias Anastasiou, said that the port was thrilled to mark the 500,000th tonne of wind turbine equipment bound for stage one of the Golden Plains Wind Farm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOver the past six months, we have seen experts across the entire supply chain working together to deliver the components to Rokewood and bring us another step closer to generating more clean energy for Victoria,\u201d Mr Anastasiou said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEach blade is half the length of the MCG, so it\u2019s no easy feat to move them safely and efficiently.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the project\u2019s first stage, known as Golden Plains Wind Farm \u2013 East, GeelongPort will receive 1,464 components on 21 individual shipments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project is also moving ahead on site, with the first turbine for stage one successfully installed in February.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The V162 wind turbines are the first of their type to be installed in Victoria. They showcase Vestas\u2019 tallest onshore hub height (149m) and longest blades (79m) and have Vestas\u2019 highest-rated output in Australia at 6.2MW.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The major components used to construct the 122 wind turbines include 366 blades, 732 tower sections and 122 individual \u2018powertrains\u2019, which make up the gearbox and the generator, \u2018nacelles\u2019, which cover the generator functions at the top of the wind turbine, and \u2018hubs\u2019 positioned at the centre of the three blades.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once completed, Golden Plains Wind Farm \u2013 East will generate enough clean energy to power approximately 450,000 homes and prevent more than 4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Featured image: Turbine components waiting to be transported at GeelongPort.
