{"id":29937,"date":"2024-04-16T11:13:25","date_gmt":"2024-04-16T01:13:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/infrastructuremagazine.com.au\/?p=51924"},"modified":"2024-04-16T11:13:25","modified_gmt":"2024-04-16T01:13:25","slug":"joint-government-funding-for-flood-resilient-bridge-and-roads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=29937","title":{"rendered":"Joint government funding for flood resilient bridge and roads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Federal and New South Wales Governments are set to jointly fund a new Melville Ford Bridge and improvements to the Maitland Vale and Melville Ford roads, delivering safer journeys and improved traffic flow thanks to better resilience against flooding.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When the new bridge is complete, it will be higher, wider and better able to withstand extreme weather conditions, keeping communities connected for longer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new bridge will be funded by all levels of government, including joint funding of over $2.5 million from the Federal and State Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements\u2019 Regional Roads and Transport Recovery Package, as well as $2.5 million from a New South Wales Government election commitment, and funding through the Fixing Country Bridges Program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Transport for NSW has also been working with Maitland City Council and other key stakeholders in the region to ensure its roads are better equipped to deal with flood events.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The New South Wales Government has also committed $6 million towards improvements, which council will use to rebuild two sections of Maitland Vale Road and a section of Melville Ford Road, helping ensure residents and road users can rely on these vital routes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Federal Special Envoy for Disaster Recovery, Tony Sheldon, said that the Federal Government is proud to partner with the New South Wales Government to co-fund this important transport link in the Hunter region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe new Melville Ford Bridge will help to ensure the Maitland region remains flood resilient for generations to come,\u201d Mr Sheldon said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe new bridge will help community connections remain intact during extreme weather events, improve access to essential services and response times during emergencies.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senator for New South Wales, Deborah O\u2019Neill, said that the Federal Government is delivering on its commitment to supporting rural and regional communities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe Melville Ford Bridge will provide crucial support and interconnectedness to the Maitland community, particularly during adverse weather events,\u201d Ms O\u2019Neill said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New South Wales Minister for Regional Transport &amp;
