{"id":29935,"date":"2024-04-16T11:15:12","date_gmt":"2024-04-16T01:15:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/infrastructuremagazine.com.au\/?p=51928"},"modified":"2024-04-16T11:15:12","modified_gmt":"2024-04-16T01:15:12","slug":"first-cars-pass-under-kilmany-rail-bridge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=29935","title":{"rendered":"First cars pass under Kilmany Rail Bridge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Traffic is now passing underneath the completed Kilmany Rail Bridge, marking a major milestone in the delivery of the Princes Highway East Upgrade.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Melbourne-bound traffic has been switched onto the newly built Princes Highway lanes between Velore and Maffra-Rosedale roads, including lanes that run under and west of the Kilmany rail bridge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All legs at the intersections of Sale-Toongabbie and Settlement roads, along with the intersection of Velore Road were also opened, providing dedicated turning lanes for motorists to access the Kilmany service road, Kilmany Township and Kilmany Transfer Station.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The third and final stage of the Princes Highway East upgrade is adding an extra 5km of consistent two lane highway, delivering a total of 43km of duplicated highway across the three stages of the project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new lanes will bring immediate safety improvements for up to 15,000 motorists who use this stretch of road every day and improve journey times between Traralgon and Sale.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A range of safety improvements will be delivered including, wider shoulders and centre median with flexible safety barriers to improve safety by reducing the risk of run-off road and head-on crashes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This stretch of road is also a gateway to a range of Gippsland tourist destinations including the snowfields and Gippsland Lakes, with the duplication set to make travel safer for day-trippers and holidaymakers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Princes Highway East Upgrade is expected to be completed in 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Featured image: The completed Kilmany Rail Bridge.
