{"id":298163,"date":"2025-10-09T11:57:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T01:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=298163"},"modified":"2026-02-10T11:55:41","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T01:55:41","slug":"riding-both-old-and-new-trains-in-one-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=298163","title":{"rendered":"Riding both Old and New trains in one day!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Looking towards a restful day on the older train to Swan Hill<\/strong> <strong>3B on 8\/10 did I get it?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Nope, because of last minute platform change from 3B to  6B!!!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Before the platform and rolling stock change<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I noticed a N loco up the yard lit up on the holding yard near the Signal Box next to coach bay, and no sign of shunters before Albury Standard Gauge VLocity was due to depart at 07:07 from no. 1 platform.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plus I notice the buffet catering pulling way and I was alerted something was going happen and as soon as it went down the ramp the PA sounded.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Attention Customers: Please be advised the 07:39 Swan Hill Service has had a platform Change and will now be departing from platform 6B.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>VLocity 3&#215;1 to Bendigo &amp; Bus to Swan Hill Both way<\/em>s<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong>Function of time has led to a sudden more frequent rolling stock changes for Swan Hill Service.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I was observing the past few runs  on VN17 or the loco got bounced too hard on the rough riding sections  to and from Swan Hill!  \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>impactive forces and vibrations subjected to the train&#8217;s  physical structure its self has a potential to damage to the electrical connections and components within the train.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Their constant use has potential to speed up wear and tear in older and newer trains<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-text-align-center is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em> VLocity 3&#215;1 to Bendigo &amp; Bus to Swan Hill Both way<\/em>s!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>It caught one of the conductors off guard ,as one mention he wanted his cup of coffee from the buffet before opening up for service! <\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em> I had  bought refreshments beforehand  but not sure about the other passenger boarding mid route!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>VLocity IMU rail car to Bendigo<\/strong>, cramped and quite crowded on toward Bendigo\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>VLocity are no. layout is different to the older train and when this happens it&#8217;s currently<strong> Free for all seating non allocated IMU VLocit<\/strong>y toward Bendigo<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>s<em>eat number and letter  allocation<\/em> <\/strong>on their tickets at the time confused a few travellers as some had reservation tickets. \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This currently only applies to the older <strong>loco hauled train<\/strong> on the Swan Hill Service.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Had a look in the yard observed crew looking at <strong>Loco N452 <\/strong>why it is unknown.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Noticed VN17 in the yard and two loco in the back near Dudley St next the <strong>Bombardier Railway Workshop<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Castlemaine and caught VN14 &amp; loco N460<\/strong> returning to Southern Cross <\/h2>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-text-align-center is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>This was type of train which I intended to ride for the day but the rolling stock change stuffed that up!!!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em>I sat in BZN476 as BZN258 was crowded as  after a nice relaxing ride back to Southern Cross  late t 11:45 due to speed restriction on rough riding areas:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Interestingly, there was a light engine movement passing me by on the down toward Castlemaine Bendigo<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why and what it was doing is currently unknown&#8230;..<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> <strong> V\/Line areas <\/strong><em> Hill, Kerang,Raywood,Macedon ,Woodend<\/em>  sections from<em> Keilor&nbsp;Plains<\/em><strong> <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em><strong>Metro Areas<\/strong> Rest<\/em>, Sunbury, Water Gardens  and Albion where the train sometimes scraps the platform<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When the train scrap the platform it&#8217;s rotten noise!!!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It sounds worse when the carriage has got rivets like BZN265  as now most modern techniques currently  used is to heat, stretch and spot weld to attach the metal steel skin on the frame of the carriage!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">After grabbing a bite to eat rode Wendouree via 12:35 VLocity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">I was on the older series with no table in end car with those purple seats after choosing my seat  near window I ate my lunch went there all the way and back. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I caught sight of<strong> A66 a<\/strong>t 3B between two VLocity <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We shuffled past Bacchus Marsh and I spotted <strong>N12 4 car N set <\/strong>sitting in a storage siding!!!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When I pulled in from Wendouree I saw <strong>VN10<\/strong> &amp;
