V\ufeffictorians will travel for free on public transport<\/a> every weekend for two months over summer in what the premier said is the “biggest free transport” event in the state’s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The state government will offer free-of-charge rides on trams, buses and trains in all of Victoria from early December until February 1 to mark the upcoming opening of the $15.5 billion Melbourne Metro Tunnel.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each Saturday and Sunday from first service until last, transport gates will remain open and commuters won’t need to tap their myki card on or off.<\/p>\n\n\n

Commuters who accidentally tap on won’t be charged for travel during this\ufeff free period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Victoria, full fares are capped at $11 per day on weekdays and $7.60 on weekends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
