She said she was excited to once again be &#8220;part of history&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I walked the bridge when it went over the river, now I&#8217;ve walked the tunnel at Adelaide Street,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I think it\u2019s wonderful \u2026 the traffic, it will settle down in the city now and you\u2019ll have a bit more freedom to move.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\" id=\"105811294\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"862\" Loram)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Construction on the tunnel was originally expected to be completed in mid-2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Running under one of the city&#8217;s oldest streets, around 16 Olympic swimming pools worth of soil and rock have been removed over the life of the project to deliver the underground infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tunnel&#8217;s opening will mark the completion of the near decade-long campaign to reshape transport solutions in the
