CENTRAL Japan Railway (JR Central) is to introduce private compartments on its Tokaido Shinkansen high-speed trains. From 2026 onwards passengers will be able to book individual compartments that seat one person.<\/p>\n
The compartments will provide even higher-quality facilities and a more comfortable environment for business travellers than the Green or first class cars that are already a feature of Shinkansen trains. Two private compartments will be added to each series N700S train.<\/p>\n
The compartments will feature reclining seats with leg rests, Wi-Fi, and individual controls for lighting, air-conditioning and multimedia. JR Central expects the compartments to be popular with passengers wanting to hold online meetings while travelling or individuals requiring extra privacy.<\/p>\n
The railways adds that it is reviewing all seating configurations within its Shinkansen fleet.<\/p>\n
