Network Rail is urging spectators to stay off the tracks and enjoy a safe day out during the Stockton & Darlington Railway Anniversary Journey this weekend.<\/p>\n

From Friday 26 September to Sunday 28 September, a newly renovated replica of Locomotion No. 1 and the passenger carriage Experiment will travel along sections of the original Stockton & Darlington Railway line between Shildon, Darlington and Stockton over three days. Delivered by S&DR200, the event forms part of Railway 200 \u2013 a year-long nationwide partnership-led campaign celebrating the bicentenary of the modern railway.<\/p>\n

The replica of Locomotion No 1 will leave Locomotion in Shildon on 26 September, arriving in Darlington later that day. On Saturday 27 September, the procession will depart from Hopetown to cross the Skerne Bridge, before returning to Hopetown. On the final day, the locomotive will travel to Stockton.  <\/p>\n

Ahead of the commemorative weekend, Network Rail is reminding spectators planning to cheer on Locomotion No. 1 to stay off the tracks.<\/p>\n

Trespassing poses a significant danger to individuals \u2013 both the trespasser and the wider public \u2013 as well as being a major cause of delay on the railway network. Many people do not realise the severe risks they take when they enter the rail network without authorisation, endangering themselves and others.<\/p>\n

Karen Duffy, operations director for Network Rail, North & East route, said: \u201cWe want the viewing public to have a fantastic time during this celebratory weekend, but we can\u2019t stress enough how important it is to keep safe. The railway is full of both obvious and hidden dangers, and it\u2019s never acceptable for the public to trespass onto the track for any reason. Our message is simple: enjoy the spectacle of the anniversary journey, but please do so from one of the designated viewing locations.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Anniversary Journey is a free event and open to all ages. Spectators will be able to see Locomotion No. 1 at designated viewing locations along the route. Click here for more information.<\/a><\/p>\n
