{"id":28865,"date":"2024-04-19T17:11:56","date_gmt":"2024-04-19T07:11:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=28865"},"modified":"2024-04-19T17:12:03","modified_gmt":"2024-04-19T07:12:03","slug":"freight-transport-2022-road-up-to-24-9-maritime-leads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=28865","title":{"rendered":"Freight transport 2022: road up to 24.9%, maritime leads"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>n 2022,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Glossary:Road_freight_transport\">road freight transport<\/a>&nbsp;represented 24.9% of all freight transport performance (in tonne-kilometres) in the EU as it went up by 0.4&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Glossary:Percentage_point\">percentage points (pp)<\/a>&nbsp;when compared to 2021.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maritime transport still accounted for the largest share of freight transport at 67.8%, but went down from 68.2% in 2021.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Glossary:Rail_freight_transport\">Rail<\/a>&nbsp;transport saw a slight increase from 5.4% in 2021 to 5.5% in 2022, while&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Glossary:Navigable_inland_waterway\">inland waterway<\/a>&nbsp;slightly decreased from 1.8% in 2021 to 1.6% in 2022. Air transport (0.2%) remained the same in 2022 when compared with the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This information comes from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/databrowser\/view\/tran_hv_ms_frmod\/default\/table?lang=en\">data on the modal split of freight transport<\/a>&nbsp;published by Eurostat today. This article presents a handful of findings from the more detailed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php\/Freight_transport_statistics_-_modal_split\">Statistics Explained article<\/a>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Compared with 2012, the only increase in share by transport mode was road transport, which went up by 2.9 pp with a gradual increase over this period. Meanwhile, decreases were noted in maritime transport (-2.1 pp), inland waterway (-0.6 pp), and rail transport (-0.2 pp). For more information click dataset below.\" title=\"Modal split of freight transport, EU - click to expand\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Source dataset:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/databrowser\/bookmark\/6d6e1a19-1a71-461f-989d-2215bddee762?lang=en\">tran_hv_ms_frmod<\/a><br>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Maritime is the main transport mode in 15 EU countries<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Out of 22 EU members with a coastline, in 2022, maritime was the main mode of freight transport for 15 of them and accounted for more than 70% of freight transport in 10 countries.
