consultation shapes new timetable for Fife, Tay Cities, and Leven"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A number of timetable improvements for customers in and around Fife and the Tay Cities are set to be introduced in June this year after more than 700 responses to a public consultation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotrail.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ScotRail<\/a> held the consultation in September last year on a series of proposed improvements for\u00a0services between Edinburgh, Fife, Perth, and Dundee and for the historic return of rail services to communities in Levenmouth.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Customers were asked for their preference of two possible interim timetable options,\u00a0to be introduced in June this year,\u00a0and for detailed feedback on how well the planned timetable for\u00a0introduction in\u00a02025 will meet local travel needs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The options were:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Option\u00a0A\u00a0\u2013\u00a0providing\u00a0Leven with two trains per hour to Edinburgh via Cowdenbeath and Dunfermline as an extension of existing services.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Option\u00a0B\u00a0\u2013\u00a0providing\u00a0Leven with an hourly service to Edinburgh via Kirkcaldy, reducing\u00a0journey times between Edinburgh and north Fife and Dundee,\u00a0and providing\u00a0more evening services across Fife.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Option B\u00a0will be\u00a0introduced, with 42 per cent of those responding opting for that, compared to 22 per cent for Option A \u2013 the\u00a0remainder\u00a0of the responses said either both, or neither,\u00a0would improve their journey.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new timetable will\u00a0include services to the new stations at Cameron Bridge and Leven which\u00a0form part of the reopening of the\u00a0Levenmouth\u00a0rail link, delivering a major boost to economic sustainability and transport connectivity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It means customers will see the following benefits:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>36 more services for Kirkcaldy every day.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>7 additional services for Dunfermline every day.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Journey times from North Fife to Edinburgh reduced by an average of three minutes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An increase in the number of seats provided between Fife and Edinburgh from just under 16,000 in each direction each day to more than 19,000.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Commuters will see eight per cent more seats\u00a0from Fife to Edinburgh in the morning peak and 12 per cent more from Edinburgh to Fife in the evening peak.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It will deliver opportunities for local people, unlocking access to education, culture, entertainment, and employment options, as well attracting new business and investment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Further improvements will be in introduced in 2025, when a second train per hour to Leven is added as an extension of the Edinburgh to\u00a0Glenrothes with Thornton via Dunfermline service.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Of those responding,\u00a059 per cent said the proposed 2025 timetable would have a positive impact on their journey,\u00a0with a further 26 per cent\u00a0stating\u00a0a neutral impact.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The consultation generated some good suggestions on how the 2025 timetable could be further improved,\u00a0and the consultation report
