{"id":285190,"date":"2025-09-16T17:59:21","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T07:59:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/?p=65945"},"modified":"2025-09-20T16:00:34","modified_gmt":"2025-09-20T06:00:34","slug":"port-of-venice-gets-ready-to-welcome-longer-trains","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=285190","title":{"rendered":"Port of Venice prepares to handle longer trains"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The first track capable of accommodating 740-metre freight trains has been commissioned at the Marghera terminal near the port of Venice in northeastern Italy.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span id=\"more-85874\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"137\" data-end=\"469\">The \u20ac2.7m project, delivered by the national infrastructure manager RFI, is expected to make rail freight to and from the port more cost-effective and competitive.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"471\" data-end=\"803\">The project \u201crepresents a decisive step towards making rail freight transport more competitive, thanks to a significant reduction in the cost per unit of load,\u201d said RFI\u2019s parent company Ferrovie dello Stato. With the new track, the port, a key hub on the TEN-T Scandinavian\u2013Mediterranean Corridor, now complies with EU standards.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"805\" data-end=\"1172\">The works included upgrades to three tracks, improvements to the electric traction signalling system and enhancements to the traffic management system. Rail freight\u2019s role at the port of Venice is expected to grow further with this development and others to come.
