PARIS transport authority \u00cele-de-France Mobility (IdFM) has ordered a further 35 RER NG EMUs from Alstom for \u20ac650m, which will be deployed on Line E of the RER network.<\/p>\n
IdFM says that the additional double-deck trains have been ordered for the western extension<\/a> of Line E to Mantes-la-Jolie, which is expected to be completed at the end of 2026.<\/p>\n The first section of the extension, from Haussmann-Saint Lazare to Nanterre-La Folie, is due to open on May 6.<\/p>\n More RER NG trains will be ordered soon to replace the MI2N fleet on Line E and complete replacement of the Z2N double-deck EMU fleet on Line D. This next batch will also increase capacity on the eastern section of Line E.<\/p>\n The new tranche of 35 trains adds to the 131 RER NG trains already on order from Alstom. The RER NG made its debut in November on Line E, where 14 of the new trains are now in service.<\/p>\n Offering 20% more capacity than the MI2N fleet on Line E, the RER NG is 100% accessible with wider doors and dedicated spaces for passengers with reduced mobility. The new trains also feature interior LED lighting that varies the level of brightness according to the time of day.<\/p>\n Following the introduction of 360 Francilien commuter EMUs and R\u00e9gio2N trains, IdFM says that over 1000 new or refurbished trains are now operating on the metro, commuter and RER networks serving the \u00cele-de-France region.
