This meant the subways suffered from frequent flooding, resulting in accessibility issues during heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n<p>The upgraded system can manage significantly larger volumes of water \u2013 helping to keep the subways safe and accessible.<\/p>\n<p>Two independently operated pumping stations and a water holding tank have been installed, providing robust flood protection and reducing the likelihood of service disruptions and costly maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>Matt Shelton, Network Rail route engineer, said: \u201cThis upgrade marks a significant step forward in improving safety and accessibility at Goole station.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re grateful to the local community for their patience and support throughout the work \u2013 this co-operation has been invaluable in allowing us to complete this important upgrade with minimal disruption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The upgrades vastly reduce the risk of flooding.
