Derbyshire rail firm MTMS has welcomed a new engineer on board as it continues to go the extra mile in keeping UK train depots maintained to the highest standards.<\/p>\n

Stuart Miller has joined the Swadlincote-based company as its latest maintenance engineer, bringing to the MTMS team more than two decades of experience on the railways.<\/p>\n

Stuart\u2019s role sees him bring his engineering expertise to MTMS\u2019s network of rail depots where much of the country\u2019s rolling train stock is serviced.<\/p>\n

He is part of a team of engineers responsible for conducting MTMS\u2019s Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) regime at its train depots, as well as carrying out engineering maintenance on related systems including controlled emission toilets (CET) and carriage wash machines.<\/p>\n

Originally from Manchester, Stuart took on an engineering apprenticeship on leaving school and has spent his career in the engineering profession, a good portion of which has been spent on the railways.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been working on the railways for a long time, so I must enjoy it!\u201d said Stuart. \u201cI think it takes a certain type of person who enjoy this type of work. No two days are the same and you travel all over the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really enjoying working at MTMS, it\u2019s a great working environment. The work is very varied. I could be rebuilding a pump or fitting systems, carrying out planned preventative maintenance or working on CET systems. Some of the work is planned but we have to be on hand for reactive call outs too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Having served as a soldier in the Territorial Army, where he was based at the King\u2019s Regiment in Warrington \u2013 now part of the Duke of Lancaster\u2019s Regiment \u2013 Stuart said he was glad to be working for MTMS which has shown a huge commitment to supporting ex-service personnel through signing the Armed Forces Covenant. MTMS is one of nearly 200 companies in the UK to be awarded one of the scheme\u2019s gold awards.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve served in the TA myself and I have relatives who have been in the armed forces,\u201d he said. \u201cI think it\u2019s great that the MTMS has shown it wants to support ex services personnel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Away from his role as an engineer, Stuart is a committed football coach for his beloved home club at Newark Town. Having volunteered to coach for the club when his son was young and been a manager of the junior team for many years, he now coaches the first team and has been a fixture there for 17 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cFootball is a really important part of my life and I\u2019m proud to be part of Newark Town Football Club,\u201d said Stuart. \u201cLike many clubs it\u2019s run by volunteers and it\u2019s important that we keep grassroots football going.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matt Forst, managing director of MTMS said: \u201cIt\u2019s great to welcome Stuart on board our team at MTMS. He brings with him a lot of experience on the railways. Our maintenance engineers do a very important job in keeping our depots operating smoothly so we can play our part in keeping the UK\u2019s railway network going.\u201d<\/p>\n
